Hesed at Chizuk Amuno

The Hebrew word Hesed means kindness and encompasses the concept off giving compassion to another.

The Hesed Committee is here for you, our Chizuk Amuno family, when:

  • you feel isolated
  • you have lost a loved one
  • you or a family member are convalescing or facing a serious illness
  • you have a new baby

Please reach out if we can help. Contact Cheryl Snyderman, Director of Gemilut Hasadim at csnyderman@chizukamuno.org, or 410-486-6400, ext. 300.

We are always in need of volunteers to help us with:

  • Havurah calls - Hesed volunteers call our isolated elders on an ongoing basis to check in, "How are you doing, everything ok?"
  • Post-Shivah callsHesed volunteers reach out to congregants who have recently lost a loved one.
  • Greeting CardsHesed volunteers create hand made cards and/or write short notes to our older members.
  • Meal preparationHesed volunteers prepare and deliver a hot meal to congregants who are convalescing or facing a serious illness.
  • Torah Fund cardsHesed volunteers send cards to members who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
  • Shabbat meals Hesed volunteers deliver a meal to families who have just had a baby (purchased by Chizuk Amuno from Accents). We include a baby blanket hand-made by our Knitting Havurah
