Yom Kippur Study Sessions: Study, Conversation, Reflection
On Yom Kippur afternoon, our custom at Chizuk Amuno is to spend the hours between services in study, conversation and reflection.  This year our Study Sessions will explore themes of Yom Kippur through story, text, behavior, and history. All classes will begin at 3 p.m in person.

The Joseph Narratives and the High Holy Days (Dr. Andrea Lieber) - (Hoffberger Chapel)
It has been suggested that the Joseph narratives mirror our experiences during the High Holy Days - Sin, regret, punishment, repentance, and reconciliation.

Legacies of Forgiveness  (Julie Warren) - (Kleinman Boardroom)
There are gifts and burdens around our personal and communal legacies of forgiveness. In this discussion-based, experiential session that begins with meditation, we will consider how we move forward to forgiveness and personal repentance.

Short Stories for Yom Kippur (Maureen Walsh David) -  (Library Beit Midrash)

A discussion of two short stories - Sholem Aleichem’s humorous holiday mystery The Yom Kippur Scandal and S.Y. Agnon’s exploration of Yom Kippurim past and present Twofold. Both stories are available online. Reading the stories in advance is recommended but not required.

Reflecting Back at the Hendler Timeline (Wendy Davis) - Hendler Learning Timeline

On this solemn day of personal reflection, we invite you to reflect on the millennia of Jewish history as displayed in our Hendler timeline which displays images and documents from our museum and archives.
