My 150th Story

Alan Kanter

When Harriet and I moved to Baltimore in May of 1972, she said to me that we were going to become members of a synagogue. I had not been to a synagogue since my Bar Mitzvah about 17 years earlier. We attended services at three different congregations and decided to become members at Chizuk Amuno subject to one condition. Under no circumstances would I become active in shul business/politics. Well, we all know how that turned out.

As active and involved members for 49 years, I have had the honor, pleasure and privilege to serve as President of both the Congregation and of the Chizuk Amuno Foundation as well as serving on many Congregation Committees. For years, Harriet was active in the Sisterhood and our daughter Lauren was a teaching assistant in the Rosenbloom Religious School. We consider Chizuk our second home and look forward to sharing many more years of community and service.
