Returning in Elul
If there were one place to which you could return where would it be?
If there were one person to whom you could return who would it be?
If you could return a thing what would it be?
If you could return to one moment in your life what would it be?
Hodesh Tov! Tonight begins the month of Elul, a time of preparation and anticipation for the High Holidays.
The theme of the High Holidays is teshuvah, returning. In his study of the laws of teshuvah, Maimonides says that the people Israel will be liberated through returning. To inspire your own personal reflection and spiritual preparation for this sacred season of return, I invite you to spend some time this summer contemplating on your own, or discussing with your family, the themes of returning.
