Thoughts & Teachings

Our Chug Ivri, (Hebrew speaking group) has met regularly on the first and third Thursday of each month from noon to 2 pm over the past ten and a half years. During that time we have read a wide range of Israeli literature, including novels, short stories, and poetry.
Recently we have been exploring some very precious material – the poetry of George Gorin, the late father of one of our members, Israela Meyerstein. Israela has shared many details of her father’s life along with many of his poems. We have been overwhelmed by the richness of Gorin’s language and thought, and his ability to express deep emotion. His love of Hebrew and his extraordinary ability to write developed early in his life, and continued to thrive from his early ears in Bialystok to his later years in America, where, upon retiring from a busy career in ophthalmology, he began to write Hebrew poetry.
Other members of our group have shared and will continue to share Hebrew literature with which they have a personal connection.
We are so proud to be a part of Chizuk Amuno’s varied and wonderful adult learning program.
