Thoughts & Teachings
There is a great story about the coach of the New York Knicks, Jeff van Gundy. The coach was walking out of a college gym where the team practices, and he passed a lanky young player entering the gym. The pro coach asked the college player, "How did you do this year?" And the player looked back sheepishly and said, "I did ok, I guess, about 10 points and 5 rebounds a game." At which Van Gundy exploded: I wasn’t asking about you personally! I was asking about the team!
In the midst of our personal teshuvah and the reviewing of our individual behavior, let’s not forget to think about our collective deeds. Considering how we did as a community and how we did as a Jewish people should also be at the center of our Days of Repentance.
