Lifelong Learning: High School Programs
High School Programs

Chizuk Amuno Congregation’s high school community is comprised of two programs – Chavurah and Netivon – for teenagers in eighth through twelfth grades. While the requirements for each program are different, Chavurah and Netivon benefit from a shared faculty and several joint activities throughout the year.

  • Chavurah (“Study Groups”) – Learning Torah with Friends
A two-hour per week program of informal class discussions on current events, Jewish values and Jewish identity. Chavurah meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

  • Netivon (“Paths of Wisdom”) – Learning Torah Lishma (for its own sake) in an Intensive Way
A four and one-half hour per week program of continued intensive Jewish education. Students continue to study Judaic texts (Bible, rabbinics, Jewish identity, and holidays) and Hebrew language in the serious, intensive manner to which they have become accustomed at KSDS and at Rosenbloom Religious School enrichhment classes.

Both programs provide the opportunity for KSDS and Rosenbloom Religious School graduates to build on skills and knowledge they have acquired and to continue learning with the rabbis and teachers of Chizuk Amuno.

Electives in this category will sharpen students’ textual analysis skills and allow them to explore different topics in Jewish texts (Tanach, Mishnah, Gemara, etc.)

  • Lishmor (To guard)
Electives in this category will allow students to become part of the centuries of Jewish experience and Jewish thought that have been transmitted from generation to generation. Courses will include topics in Jewish history, philosophy and literature.

  • La’Asot (To do)
Electives in this category will focus on the practical Judaism of everyday living. Courses in this category will give students the chance to examine Jewish law, synagogue skills, holiday customs and issues of observance.
