Meet Our Synagogue Leaders – New

Jason A. Blavatt

President

A lifelong member of the congregation, Jason was elected President of Chizuk Amuno Congregation at our recent 145th Annual Meeting. Jason has served in many capacities in the congregation including as a vice president and committee chair. Jason has been an active leader in many community organizations including his current roles as Chairman of the Board of LifeBridge Health and on the Boards of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore and the Baltimore Jewish Council.  The Managing Partner of Blavatt Law Office, he also serves as Chairman of the Baltimore County Human Relations Commission.

Jason is married to Amy Blavatt and their two children celebrated their B’nei Mitzvah at Chizuk Amuno (as did Jason) and attended our schools.

Sandra Moffet

Vice President for Administration

A fourth generation member of Chizuk Amuno Congregation, Sandi has been a synagogue officer and board member for many years and has served as committee chair of our Education Committee, Annual Appeal Campaign, Personnel Committee, and co-chair of our Torah Writing Campaign.  In the community, Sandi is a Board Member of the Baltimore Estate Planning Council, Co-Chair of the Jewish Professional Women’s Committee at The Associated, is a member of the Walters Art Gallery Planned Giving Committee, Parents’ Association Representative at Roland Park Country School and a Board Member of The Jill Fox Memorial Fund.

Professionally, Sandi is a Strategic Advisor and Partner with Brown Advisory and prior to joining that firm, she was head of trust advisory services with Legg Mason Investment Counsel and a vice president and trust officer with Mercantile Safe Deposit and Trust Co. She attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, LL.M. Taxation; University of Baltimore School of Law, J.D.; Tufts University, B.A.; and is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.

Married to Brian Moffet, they have two daughters, Ilana and Wynne, who, like Sandi, attended our schools and celebrated their B’not Mitzvah at Chizuk Amuno.

Kelly Blavatt

Vice President for Education & Youth

Kelly has called Chizuk Amuno her spiritual home for many years.  Over that time, she has enjoyed being an active member of our community.  She led the Chizuk Amuno Race for the Cure team, served on the membership committee and as Chair of the Gemilut Hasadim Committee.  Additionally, Kelly has been an engaged member of the Board for a number of years.  Kelly recently enjoyed being a member of the steering committee for Chizuk Amuno Congregation and Schools playground.  Kelly and her husband, Jeffrey reside in Reisterstown with their two sons, Jackson and Carter.  Jackson attends the Goldsmith Early Childhood Education Center, where Kelly serves as the co-President for the PA Council.  Although primarily a stay at home mom, Kelly also practices law with the Blavatt Law Office.

Neil Leikach

Vice President for Membership Engagement

Neil and his wife, Dixie, joined Chizuk Amuno about 13 years ago when their son, Eric, was in 2nd grade at our Krieger Schechter Day School because his friends from school went here and they felt comfortable in the congregational community. Their younger son, Marc, also attended KSDS for a few years. Neil has been a board member for four years and has chaired our Annual Campaign. He is actively involved with The Associated’s Baltimore Ashkelon partnership, the Baltimore –Odessa partnership and the Solomon Society and has been to Israel, including Baltimore’s sister city Ashkelon, nine times.

Neil is an independent pharmacy owner and enjoys giving back to his professional and civic communities.  He has served as president of the Maryland Pharmacists Association and the University of MD School of Pharmacy Alumni Association.

As our Vice President for Membership Engagement, Neil will remind us all that Membership Matters!

Stephen Pomerantz

Vice President for Religious Life

A member of Chizuk Amuno Congregation since 2004, Stephen Pomerantz has been a dedicated board member and executive committee member and officer since 2009.   Most recently, he enthusiastically co-chaired the community playground committee, raising over $500,000, engaging hundreds of volunteers and creating an exciting and successful community-building experience.

Steve is a graduate of the Wexner Heritage Leadership Program and has served in numerous leadership capacities at Chizuk Amuno including multiple committee chairmanships and special projects.  HE is also an active member of the University of Maryland Hillel Board of Trustees.

Steve is a Radiologist at Advanced Radiology and lives in Reisterstown with his wife Leslie and their three children, Miriam, Aaron and Shira, all B’nei Mitzvah at Chizuk Amuno and Krieger Schechter Day School graduates.

Beth Goldsmith

Vice President for Development

Beth Goldsmith married into a three-generation Chizuk Amuno family in 1979. The Goldsmith children all attended both pre-school and religious school classes at Chizuk Amuno. Beth has served on the board  and chaired the Congregational Advancement Committee of our Strategic Planning initiative. Prior to joining the Executive Committee as Vice President for Development, she chaired the congregation’s annual campaign for two years, and headed the major gifts committee for the community playground build. Beth is also on the Board of Governors of The Associated, the Board of Trustees of The Jewish Federations of North America, and the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Stephani Braverman

Secretary

Stephani and her husband, Gary, joined Chizuk Amuno about 13 years ago when their sons, Alec and Jordan, started at Goldsmith Early Childhood Education Center. During that first year she worked on staff as the Director of Membership and Communication. Following that, she continued to volunteer on committees including Rosenbloom Religious School and Membership committees as well as the Torah Writing Campaign. Jordan and Alec both attended our school and became B’nei Mitzvah at the synagogue.

Professionally, Stephani works as Director of Business Development for UnitedHealthcare Insurance, focusing on medical and ancillary insurance coverage sales to large employer groups.

Allan Greenberg

Treasurer

Allan and Susan Greenberg have been members of Chizuk Amuno for nearly twenty years. Allan has served on the Board of Trustees, as Budget & Finance Committee Chair, and now as our Treasurer. Allan’s three “twenty-something” children, Zachary, Jayne, and Benjamin are each graduates of our Krieger Schechter Day School and celebrated their B’nei Mitzvah at Chizuk Amuno Congregation.

Allan has an MBA from Loyola University, is a CPA, and has a BA in Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
